We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Community Planner interested in growing a planning team with expertise in Brownfield Planning and visioning to join our dedicated team. You will have the opportunity to work on local and national projects that transform our cities and towns through transformative planning strategies and designs.

You will be involved in a wide variety of projects, including brownfield planning and visioning, general plan updates, small area plans, downtown corridor, and revitalization plans, as well as large area master-planned communities for public and private clients. You will work collaboratively with our Brownfield service line and our award-winning landscape architecture team currently located in Salt Lake City, Utah and Phoenix, Arizona. This will be a unique opportunity to join Terracon and assist with leading and growing our community planning efforts.

This position can be located out of the following Terracon locations: Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Montana, or Boise.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Brownfields Planning:
  • Lead and oversee Brownfields Redevelopment projects from initiation to completion.
  • Collaborate with our Brownfields professionals while they develop site assessments and remediation planning strategies as part of revitalization of priority sites identified in EPA Brownfields grants.
  • Navigate regulatory frameworks and secure necessary permits for Brownfield Redevelopment initiatives.
  • Provide planning and visioning services that meet EPA guidelines.
  • Identify communities to apply for EPA Brownfields grants and provide support to local Terracon teams.
2. Visioning and Strategic Planning:
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, community leaders, and local residents to develop a shared vision for community growth and revitalization.
  • Facilitate charrettes, workshops, and public meetings to gather input and ensure community participation in the planning process.
  • Translate community aspirations into actionable and sustainable planning strategies.
3. Project Management:
  • Lead and grow our planning services within Terracon.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, including landscape architects, architects, engineers, and environmental consultants, to ensure comprehensive project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to win work, prepare and submit on public and private proposals.
  • A good network of clients within the industry would be preferred.
4. Policy Development:
  • Stay abreast of relevant urban planning policies and regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of local planning policies, zoning ordinances, and land-use plans that support sustainable development and brownfield remediation.
  • Form based planning and code writing.
  • Assist with design guidelines, planned area developments, annexation plans etc.
5. Community Engagement:
  • Foster positive relationships with community members, local officials, and advocacy groups.
  • Implement innovative engagement strategies to ensure diverse and inclusive participation in the planning process.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in community planning, with a focus on brownfield redevelopment.
  • Strong knowledge of brownfield remediation processes, environmental regulations, and land-use planning principles.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing complex planning projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in GIS, CAD, and other relevant planning software.
  • AICP Certified
  • Valid Driver's license with acceptable violation history.
