Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive design of electrical systems primarily for industrial and municipal facilities. Typical tasks may include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; assisting with writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. Project work will include design of power and controls for power plants, refineries, mine processing facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities, as well as water and wastewater treatment facilities for municipal clients. The work may involve short-term travel, usually one week or less in duration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems

  • 0 to 5 years of relevant experience

  • Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative

  • A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Power distribution experience

  • Understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

  • Understanding of short-circuit analysis

  • Familiarity with power studies using computer software (e.g., SKM, ETAP)

  • Willingness to learn new skills

  • Proven project or task management skills

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified (passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam) or ability to obtain within one year

  • GPA 3.0 or greater

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office.

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training and all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
